I went to Washington in mid-November. Mt. St. Helens was a challenge. It was so cold and so windy. I was using a light-weight borrowed tripod and a big heavy lens. I wanted the trees in the front in focus, so I had to shoot at f16 or smaller, which meant my shutter speed was down around 1/30 or 1/15. (Those trees are about 8 miles away from the actual moutain.) That was tough in the wind! See the left side of the photo where the mountain blew out last time? The only volcano in recorded history that blew sideways instead of straight up.
