Thank you, Armando, for the generous words and the nice gesture. I do love trying to photograph birds, but I know little about them. Both efforts are wonderful challeges. My elder daughter is a committed bird-watcher, who is trying (slowly) to educate me. This past spring, I took her for a brief trip around Yorkshire, Northumberland, Scotland, and the Lake Country. We visited some amazing places--including Vane Farm, a splendid sanctuary. Here in Charleston, SC, there is a very active organization that is rescuing injured raptors in hopes of healing and returning them to the wild. I look forward to seeing more of your photographic work, and I appreciate your interest in mine.

Regards,
--George

Thank you for your comment to my boxdog, I have been seeing your portafolio and definitively you have to be in my friends list , because besides good photographer, I see that you love the nature, the same as me.
Is this a Saker Falcon?? (Falco cherrug)?? , super pic my friend.
I am a falconer and I have a biird of prey breeder center.
You can see many falcons pictures, and hawks in myportafolio, even to newly born

Hi George: I agree...the head may be a bit "hot", but that is totally superseded by the reflection in his eye... If I'm not mistaken, the sky is blue, with white puffy clouds... Fantastic shot!!!

Cheers,

Bill

Well, this is really amazing. The close up detail is stunning, you can make out the reflected details in the eye! The highlights are a little burned out but what can you do, the sun is shining on his head! Nicely framed and the background is perfect. 7 all the way. -mm

Marcus--Thanks for the great information. Those Joneses are hard to keep up with! Honestly, I suppose I don't NEED another camera, but I do love the technology. I toyed with trying to find a way to get a 1DS Mark II. Even if price were no issue (and it is!), I would have to think hard about carrying a camera that weighs twice as much as the one I am used to. Maybe I'll just sit it out for a while.
The lens sounds great, and it certainly does serve you well--beautiful sharpness and resolution. I will be looking into that one.
So thanks again. Sometimes I get frustrated with this site, but then somebody seems to make it all worthwhile. Good to meet ya . . .

Regards,
--George

Hi George, This is a fantastic shot, Very nice full frame capture, The detail is amazing, Its not easy to get this close to these raptors as they usually take off from the slighest little noise, could not have been captured any better. This will defenitly be a favorite of mine.

Let me say thanks for the honor of your dedication to my Close Up shot, I think the two are very simular and this one stands out just as much If not more than mine.

As for my Gear, I used the 10D for a year before upgrading to the 20D, The 10D Is a great Camera, and the upgrade was more of a "keep up with the jones'es" type upgrade then anything, I do like the few improvements they made, such as the 8mp over 6, faster more accuate focusing, better low light focusing, the instant on feature assures you will not miss a shot, as after it enters sleep mode you can tap the shutter button and It will be ready to shoot in 1/10 of a second, I have not really noticed the newer low noise at high ISO's that was advertised, there are some other smaller upgrades that come in handy.

As far as the canon 100-400mm L, Its a great lens once you get used to it, at first I had problems getting used to it due to the push pull zoom, but like anything after awhile it feels normal, I find this a really handy lens that does have the 2 mode IS system, and is priced very resonably, I do sometimes shoot high ISO's with birds here this time of year the sun is very rare, most of my bird shots are taken in AV aperature mode, so I set the app and the camera sets the shutter speed, I do try to keep the app at around F/8 as it seems to be the sweet spot with my lens, so a high iso will assure me of a shutter speed of atleast twice that of the 400mm I usually shoot at, as when I am shooting birds I never know If I will be pointing up in the sky where shutter speed is not a problem, or down in the darker areas where shutter speed can go from 2000 to 150 in a second, so the more than fast enough shutter speed is more of the result of precaution then anything, when I know exactly what I am going to shoot my settings are more typical,

Well I again am honored by your comment and this picture post, I really hope to see many more bird shots by you as The shots I have seen so far are outstanding...
Take Care..
Marcus

Excellent detail and depth of field, well framed but just a tad overdone in the highlights... if you shot it in raw mode you might be able to correct it and then it would be stunning! Excellent effort!

Very nice capture. Just a little blown out on the whites. Other than that I like it :)
