Let me share something I just discovered. My first camera was a Canon s100 ELPH while not cheep this is an older model so I didn't pay much for secondhand. I had the chance to upgrade to a better camera, again secondhand, but the new one is not really suited to hand held point and shoot work. They are both excellent cameras but each has it's on niche. If you have the chance to "test drive" a camera do so because it might not suit your needs no matter how much you pay. Words to live by, invest in extra batteries and cards and learn all you can about your camera.

Thank you Ellen. Like you, my success rate has improved remarkably using my 'el cheapo' digital camera. I've been trying for YEARS to capture an image of these grasses (and others- working on this still) on 35mm, without much success. Cheers, Ed.

This is quite an outstanding shot. The name bumble bee grass fits it well.

Higher megapixel - you will get more detail, but a lot of the effect here is from the macro lens, I think. One of the beauties of a narrow DOF. It's amazing what can come from a less expensive camera - the detail, color and composition here are quite good - I enjoyed looking at these grasses. Yes, digital darkroom is SO much fun!
