About the tears?
As the beautiful forests of north Carolina vanish for more concrete and glass.
I cannot believe the transformation in this area - so many acres of trees are gone.
The price of progress.

Well Neil not controversial at all. One of the main naturally growing trees here in NC is the Loblolly pine

http://www.cnr.vt.edu/dendro/dendrology/syllabus/ptaeda.htm

Of course there are other trees which grow as well with more valuable wood. Much of the forest is natural as far as I know ? not like the acres of regimented pines that we see growing in the UK.
I came to North Carolina after a brief stay in California. When I flew in for the job interview I saw masses of green and many albeit muddy lakes. If was quite a contrast. To the desert like vista of Northern California. In the previous 3 years before California we lived in the desert proper in the UAE so I guess I have become quite attached to the green aspect of NC.

Just wondering - to be a bit controvertial here. Were the trees in a man-made plantation or naturally occuring in this area? If the latter I agree that it is a great loss. If the former then in my view no great deaal as these manmade forests are often sterile of any significant naturaal life. Probably get more life in you average city park.

Now running for (un-natural) cover.

I know, but with out this, where would you go to buy all of those shoes, etc etc. I guess just part of "Progress??".

And for how long? I ask myself. Not as long as the trees have been there I bet!

You've captured some lovely evening light and shadows here. It's a shame that it's all going to be a supermarket soon :(

Isn't that a Hucknall song? Like the symmetry. I really like the way the scaffolding makes the inner turn. Nice. Good one, Lass.
