Looks like he is keeping his eye on you, too.
I agree with what you say about preferring to see them in the wild, especially as the captured animals tend to wear identifying marks on them, as is this guy and his leg ring. It kind of takes their spirit away from where it should be.
The colouring and details in this image are spot on. The framing is ideal for this image. The black assists in bringing the gentle colour of the bird out of the page.
