The roofs are made of a kind of 'reed', Michele. The reed is carefully tied in bundeles then laid on the roof by a 'thatcher' who secures them and joins them together to form a waterproof layer. It's a very skilled job and a very expensive one to have done! A good thatched roof may last 25-30 years but will then have to be rethatched! Kind regards, Chris

Wow! I like this kind of composition a lot. I am just curious about those roofs ... I mean... how are they made? which material? they look strange, you know... in my country are really different.

These places are so quaint aren't they Chris, and you can find some interesting little curios in them. But you need a rainy day to visit them. You obviously had better weather and you took full advantage of it. This is a great shot with lots of detail and perfect contrast. Thanks for sharing. Den PS Any news of Roland?

Hm...what a cute butique...I wonder..if I can get into that small house...!! :-/ It's a lovely photo with such a great light, which I very often see in your work. Dark,- somehow, but always some brilliant lightning..is that correct..or does lightning means the light in the sky when you got a thunder?? Hm... :-/ Monday morning..and my head is spinning..allready!! LOL I'm glad you had a great Sunday...even though I'm not surprisede...sure you'll have a great Sunday...!!!!
