About What a brilliant day!! It's now 11.15pm (16 hours and 50 minutes after my first of the day!!!) and as I look back on the day I'm just grateful for the way everything has gone!! ;-)

So here's bit of thatch to celebrate. Another scene from the archetypal Dorset village of Abbotsbury.

I hope you had a good Sunday too.

Thanks for dropping by.

Best regards,

Chris

The roofs are made of a kind of 'reed', Michele.
The reed is carefully tied in bundeles then laid on the roof by a 'thatcher' who secures them and joins them together to form a waterproof layer.
It's a very skilled job and a very expensive one to have done! A good thatched roof may last 25-30 years but will then have to be rethatched!
Kind regards, Chris

Wow! I like this kind of composition a lot. I am just curious about those roofs ... I mean... how are they made? which material? they look strange, you know... in my country are really different.

These places are so quaint aren't they Chris, and you can find some interesting little curios in them. But you need a rainy day to visit them. You obviously had better weather and you took full advantage of it. This is a great shot with lots of detail and perfect contrast. Thanks for sharing.

PS Any news of Roland?

Terrific, thanks Chris - a nice warm Dorset Spracklen ;-)

Certainly feels warmer than the North Sea coast where I've been today.
