Jasenka, try getting your African Grey to play with another toy to distract him. Get your camera set and if you want him looking at the camera grab his attention and click. If you don't want him looking at the camera then when you are ready, remove the toy out of his reach quickly and click. Treat them as if you are photographing children. It always works. They are curious with what you have so work with it.
I will be keen to see the results.

He, he... like you described it is as easy as one, two, three..
Well my birds are also relaxed in my presence, my african gray even like to play with my camera (he even break a lense ring on my boyfriend's old camera) but I don't manage to get any usable shot of him... Well it looks like I'll have to try, and try, and try some more...
Thanks for your quick reply... and hopefully you'll see my birds here also...

Jasenka, We have walk in aviaries and they have a lot of contact with us. While we don't actually touch them unless we have to we do feed them a special breakfast each morning on their tree stump. So it is kept quite natural and they have become used to us wandering amongst them. So when it comes to photographing them, they are quite relaxed. Unless as I don't make any quick moves they are fine. I even take other photographers in their with me to capture their activity.

Great picture and even greater bird!
Just one question... how do you get the birds to be in such great posture? I have cople of birds also and made hundreds of photos of them with almost no result... Looks like thay know when I'm going to take the picture and they in purpose turn awy from me :-))))

Hi Judi. I think the reason your pictures have made such an impression on me is simply that you have a passion for your subjects. IMO, that is what many otherwise fine photographs lack. You bring them to life for us by your passion for your work. Thanks. Kurt

Thankyou Larry, they are quiet birds, although this ones mate likes to growl at us...such a hoot.

Thankyou Margaret....yes they do get used to me coming close to them with the camera. We are fortunate that way. The children like to sit in the aviaries and read their books. Often the birds will come down and sit on their feet while they read.
