Q: What is a "Ramp Filter?"
A: There is no package to buy. It's just a technique.
It's Kanemoto terminology for using the quick mask function in Photoshop then using the "Gradiant Tool" to create a mask that "ramps down" the selection. I then can apply Levels (contrast and brightness), saturation, or color balance on any channel to just the selection on a gradient so that no harsh "matting lines" appear.
It allows for very subtle pushes and corrections, and I think it adds a lot more control.
The equivalent is shooting with gradient filters.
In place of the gradient fill you can use the airbrush or paintbrush set really high, and paint outside the edge of the photograph.
I have found that using gradient masks against the sky and ground (through inverse select) allows me to correct the sky and ground as seperate elements, but with a blend that does not show any masking.
Let me know if you need a walkthrough and I may post something in a discussion group with walkthroughs.

Boy oh boy Jim. You've done fabulous work here. These guys are so difficult. Apart from the posing it's hard to get sufficient DOF across the wings and body but you've got it perfect. Den
