SD,
I hadn't seen this image of yours before, I am so glad I did. You never fail to amaze me. Excellent clarity for such a difficult insect.

Thankyou for commenting on my image Dare to be different. I forgot to thankyou earlier... I was distracted by something else happening around me.

Thanks for trying - i tried too with no success, i think the highlights were just to blown out :( nevermind - something to keep in mind for next time lol .Glad you like it though and look forward to hearing from you again and seeing more of your work!

Hmm, I tried playing with it in PS but my skills in that region are also very limited. I tried making a new duplicate layer from the background and then played with the levels, brightness/contrast and tried burning the flower top, but they all came out looking too fake.
Perhaps someone with more PS skill could help?
I still think this is a really good image!

Thanks Kim for your comments. Igor also mentioned about the plant but to be honest i'm not to sure how to go about it. Neverthless i'll give it a try and if it's successful let you know :) thanks again. Stu

Thanks so much for the recent comments on my portfolio.... thought that I would return the favour, and I am glad I did.
Butterflies and dragonflies have always been a mission for me, but I have never gotten such a crisp, clear image such as this.
The exposure on the dragonfly is excellent, although I find the thing that he is sitting on to be a minor distraction because it's so blown out. Perhaps a trip into PS to tone it down?
The DOF makes the background deliciously wonderful... I am in awe!

Thanks Igor!Do you mean darken it in PS or when you actually take the shot? If so how would you do it?

Igor Gatnik   {K:2300} 9/24/2004
Perfect photo. I would darken the top of the plant, so the dragonfly would be more stressed.

...and perfect shot, your "Perfect landing", Mr. Holmes.
This seems to be our first meting on the pages of "Usefilm, Mr. Holms and I took the opprtunity to look at your portfolio and read your bio. Of course you are invited into mine, both portfolio and bio. Although I found just eight photos, I think they are all very good and I opted to comment on this one because I know from experience how difficult it is to catch a dragonfly landing. Although almost entirely retired, I have many years of teaching (psychoanalysis) behind me and if thing go as planned, I will be teaching voluntarily the art of brief psychotherpy to a group of social workers next month.
Thank you for your generous comment on my "Evening in Tel Aviv".
Regards,
Dr. Rafael (Rafi) Springmann

Looks like you the hang of the DOF in macro, as it's bang on with a great composition. The color of the background really attracts my eyes. Keep up the good work.
