Just beautiful Jennifer, the colours are fantastic as the lines created by the shallow DOF. I like the flow and depth from the focused foreground to the very rich background.
To my favs.

PS: Is it a tulip or California poppy, or ???

Ahhhh - I was just wondering what kind of camera you might have when you have this rich close-up macro feeling. Same as me. It?s great to work with - isn?t it. Cool diagonal you created here.

thanks for your feedback, Roger - i appreciate hearing your critiques of what does & doesn't work for you with my work. I'm actually hoping to get into printing some of my work really large...maybe not 10' but hoping to try out 4' or so. It's great for me to hear that someone else can envision that. Thanks!

Mary Sue - thank you for your comments & support. I went back & forth many times between cropping the top off this photo & keeping it &, in the end, i just had to decide on one or the other! I found that the image was cleaner, somehow, with it cropped & tighter, but i did find that i lost some of the feeling of perspective without it. I appreciate that kind of feedback & critique as i find it can help me consider things i hadn't thought of or show me how other people respond to the choices i do make. Thank you. I was wondering, because you like to shoot macro florals as well!, how you like your 100mm lens for general macro shots as well as for shooting portraits? I'm going to be buying the nikon D70 & a macro lens & i'm trying to decide between the 60mm or the 105mm (i'd love the 85mm but can't find one 2nd hand which is all i can afford). Any input you can give me would be really helpful. Thanks! :O)

Jennifer! This is wonderful. I have tried this so many times with roses, and simply have not achieved the light you got here. The sharp front edge of the rose petal is just lovely, particularly because it the background is the lovely bright OOF color.
The diagonal works very well for you here. I think the composition would be strengthened if you cropped off the white area at the top. It doesn't add anything, and competes with the sharp edge for attention.
Cool image!

Very interesting shot-it reminds me of a bird flying into the sunset-with the way the petal lays in the image as well as the wonderful orange tones. Suddenly what appears to be a beautiful floral is like an abstract landscape-wonderful~

Hi Jennifer, this is a great photo. Yet again you have submitted a unique floral image. just when I thought I'd seen it all. personally I like the light at the top of this image. it just adds another dimension to an already interesting photo.

Very nice use of DOF and lighting. The diagonal line of focus is a nice compositional touch as well. Beautiful colors, beautiful image.
