Hi Scott,
I had just bought the nikon D70 the day before and thought i'd give it a whirl. So this shot was done in color and converted to B/W in Photoshop using Greyscale, No filters....and thats it. It's all digital.

Awesome shot Tim, I can only echo what already has been mentioned in the numerous comments that this is Ansel Adams like. Wonderful tones, contrast, reflections & choice of foreground. Absoultely brilliant & well executed, cheers.

I gravitated towards this photo because of the Ansel Adams look. It could easily be inserted into one of his galleries.

I know it has been a while since you took this photo but to you remember what if any filters you were using what kind of post processing you did?

Very nice photo!

great shot, tim. Love how the highlights in the sky in the background really help pull us into this piece. A good, strong composition. I tried cropping it a little tighter on the bottom (just at the bottom edge of the grass) & found i was pulled into the perspective of the piece even more - let me know what you think. Love the b&w here! Of course, your colour work is so strong & you show such confidence there - so it's great to see you pushing yourself to try out new ways of seeing/showing. :O)

Magnificent ! Ansel Adams would be proud. I also am a fan of Jim Brandenburg as well as Sally Mann,
and Roman Loranc. I'd love to get something anywhere close to theirs. And you have! Very good!!!

Oh man, thats sad.....thanks for the heads up....guess i'm kind of isolated these days and will be even more so soon. I'm moving to a small island ( Hornby Island) further north to suck up some of the wild juice that canada has to offer.

still beautiful... but I love colors...
The contrasts perfect, indeed.
It resembles me a work from my partner and dearest friend Márcio Costa (#22258). If you have, you can visit it:

Cheers, and thank for your kind comment!

hi Bart, for a second I thought you had information that I haddent heard....Galen is still with us as far as I know.....when I was climbing extensively as a younger fellow I used follow his exploits around the world. Guess some of his stuff rubbed off on me. its hard to know where all of the influences come from.

I think it works even better in B&W. Ansel meets Galen...come to think of it, they may be out shooting together somewhere right now in the great beyond. Cheers!

you have a photo of half dome? just love that mountain. It was my first "big wall" i did the regular route up the center of the face to the visor on the top. Was a very scary experience. Took 2 days. glad i'm older and don't have to stick my neck out like that now. Just wander around taking photos.....lol.

I wouldn't say that Ansel is my hero, however I have a huge B&W of half Dome on my office wall. My wildlife Photography hero is Jim Brandenburg , who BTW lives about an hour north of my office in Ely MN. right on the edge of nowhere.
I have read Ansels books and have several. He did some of hims magic in the dark room . We do it on the computer. wonder how he would have done with Digital ?

funny that you say that as that was just what i was thinking....i used to hang out in Yosemite and climb the big walls there for months at a time. then durring the "down" times i would go to the Ansel Adams gallery and look at his stunning compositions. I think something rubbed off on me around that time.

Ah, I see that you have taken a trip to the other side-to the land of no color. Seeing as how this looks just as good in black&white as it does color proves what a striking image it is. Wonderful~
