Location City -  Old City (Balad)
State -  JEDDAH
Country - Saudi Arabia   Saudi Arabia
About All of us during our childhood dreamed to be Aladdin, to be a part of the fabulous 1001 Arabian Nights tales, wishing to be there when it happened. The closest place one can get in Saudi Arabia is ?Balad?, literally translated as ?The Town?, a part of Old Jeddah. Balad attracted me the very first time I saw it. It was evening, the sun slowly slipping into the Red Sea and as night tries to spread darkness, Balad, with its narrow lanes, treaded by travellers and traders for centuries, come to life showcasing a market place teaming with traders and street hawkers shouting to get the attention of visitors. The scene reminded me of market streets in Old Cairo in Egypt or Marrakech City in Morocco.

Fantastic character both in the image and the man you shared conversation with. I doubt that I would ever get the same opportunity in my lifetime. So it was wonderful to be able to experience it through your story and image. Thankyou for making me feel as if I was there too. Judi

Oh my gosh, you are such a great story teller, I am there walking through the narrow lanes while reading your tale of this city. You should write a book with your stories and photos. This is a great shot. Alison

Thanks Dear Regina and to tell you the truth, this shot was one of several shots I have taking in this fabulous place. I have another dramatic part of story that made me write a long article about this place and this man particularly has invited me to his house & offered me dates and Arabian coffee, ?Quawa?, which we both have some sort of conversation, he in his old memories about the place, time, friends and longing to glorious past days. I was encouraging him to talk more and more. I was sort of fascinated to the old man stories. He was kind enough to permit me to visit the first floor of his house from where I had an insider?s view from the latticed and carved woodwork windows called ?Rowasheen?, that allows air and light through the balcony while blocking the direct sunlight, heat and prying eyes from outside. It was such a great experience to me.

Ozjan, my Friend:

this work of Yours had a great impact on me...

Thank YOU for sharing....

this b&w version has a dramatic "punch" to the scene... where the feeling of Abandon is tremedous.

kind regards + Maa' Salama,
Regina
