Cary, you sure know how to get the glow in these flowers. The upper petals sure have a nice swirl to them. Great picture. Don.

Thanks for the discussion Ken, I really do enjoy talking about it. I work from home, so it gives me ample time to work the garden and shoot it, but lately, the work thing has been suffering. Ahh the starving artist!

Just as I suspected Cary. I had a feeling that it was a combination of methods. At least you don't have to travel far for your subjects. Your garden must be lovely. Once again, super job on all of it.

Hi Ken, there is no single answer to your questions, however, I will hit it as staight as I can. Most of these florals are in my driveway, I worked diligently to create a little tropical garden in the north. It takes lots of patients and time, lots of water and misting, which you will see in most of them. While working to improve the success of the garden, I notice the right angles and light to shoot from. Of coures, hundreds of shots are required to get the "right one". My Lighting is a combination of things, natural shade or overcast light (which I like very much), fill with a flashlite (of various sizes) and tethered flash off camera. I use reflectors of various sorts, white envelopes, light clothing, black velvet scrims to take light away and adjusting lighting angles and combinations. All depends on the ambient light quality, type of subject, flat or deep? And the main ingredient is persistance and experimentation until you find something that works and then change it! So, have I made that clear??????? Bottom line is I look for anything that enhances a good product and nature makes some of the best, good fun shooting, CAry

Another beauty Cary. Do you shoot these with natural or artificial light? Are these flowers that you shoot in the field so to speak, or do you take them back to your home or studio? I don't mean to be nosey, but I really admire your work and I'm interested in your technique.
