Location City -  Lynchburg
State -  VIRGINIA
Country - United States   United States
About Lynchburg Virginia. Otherwise know as Hill city. This is one of the locals. Every street in the downtown area is uphill, then downhill. This old guy was on a very steep hill, trying to make it up. After I so hastily and ruthlessly snapped a shot, Putz got out of the truck and pushed him up the hill and through the stop light. NOT a city for someone handicapped and without transportation, for sure.

This is a very human and touching shot. It remided me of our brief visit to the Lowry in Salford Quays in Manchester and one of the characters in a picture. It was a man on a plank which was raised off the ground by very small wheels- the man had no legs at all. The lady who was standing next to me pointed him out and said of course we saw a lot of people like that after the war. It doesnt look much easier for your subject does it?

DETERMINATION would make a good title also. Many, including myself, would probably give up and just stay home. A very excellent and emotional shot. I got the same feelings as John Loreaux expressed.

What a great shot! I love the B&W portrayal of the handicapped man. The uphill battle these people have their whole lives is clearly portrayed in this shot. The battle to survive and get somewhere never stops. I personally think your shot could be used by the disabled societies worldwide to give "normal" ablebodied people an insight in the suffering and hardship handicapped people have.

Congratulations on a very emotional and catching photo you took here.

His head downcast as he doesn't want to see pity from anyone who witnesses his struggle, focusing his energy as he uses every reserve in his arms to get up that hill. Dramatic capture Rebecca.
