WEll Lloyd, its always great to hear another story. without them who would we be? Before TV it was so important and now hardly ever heard, unless it's on the ever dimishing CBC.
Warm regards, Tim

Hi Tim, many years ago my brother was a park naturalist in kaninaskis ( spelling) provincial park and they were taking a helicopter up one of the mountains to take some pictures of the area. He phoned me in red deer at the time and asked if I wanted to go. I drove like a maniac and arrived just in time to catch the last trip up the mountain. there was just my brother and the pilot and myself. My brother wanted to take some pictures of the visitor centre that had just been built, so the pilot turned the helicopter on its side and hovered in that position for a couple of minutes, unbeleivable experiance. I shot off a few rolls of film in a very short period of time ( those pictures have to be around here somewhere, I'll find them another day). you are right though I would advise everyone to do it, incredible. Lloyd Ps sorry for the book, lol

Well Jim, i had to pay for 2 seats to get this heli to myself.....so the next time i go, you could be right there too, and it would be at half the price for me! It cost $380 canadian ( $25 american....just kidding) for 25 min. the next time i want to go to the Columbia Ice Fields just a little further down the road. if this looks good that would blow your socks off. I know as i used to climb lots of those peaks many years ago.

hi Elizabeth,
I would recommend the experience. just keep your shutter speed up and have a good aperture setting. It was pretty bouncy as we were in the mountains but the shutter speed fixes that. just keep your mind on the shot so your stomach doesn't take over....ha-ha....

Yes Chris, I managed to take 166 photos in 12 min. we were in the air for 25min, but the good stuff was 7 mins in to the area I wanted to photograph. So of the 166 pics I think 20% worked out. Allot of them had the helicopter blade in them. My shutter speed was fast and caught the whirling blade often. at other times we were bobbing around so much that the horizon was at 45 degrees and it shows in my images. ha-ha. The other difficulty was telling the pilot how I wanted the chopper oriented all the while shooting photos. There was so much going on that I'm amazed that any of them turned out at all. Thank goodness for the fast D70 response, shutter wise. It was flawless in its performance. Well .....way better then my stomach....LOL

I got the heli that had a photo window that slides open.... was a little worried about dropping my new D70 just 3 days old. Especially when he did some banking manoeuvres that just about made me throw up, but i forced myself to keep shooting pictures as i wasn't up there long.....Ahhh the mind is a strong thing when it wants to be

excellent landscape Tim; lovely details; I like this border dividing the world into two part: shadows and lights;
I must have been fantastic feeling in this helicopter. I understand that your door was open :-)

well done my friend

regards
Lukasz

Beautiful photo. Very dramatic drop. The image is so sharp, did you not have any problems with vibration from the helicopter? I've thought of doing something like this, but I don't want to risk my life if the pictures are going to turn out blury ;)

Actually I think the clouds are just perfect the way they are. Too much of a dramatic sky would pull away attention from the beautiful landscape, IMO.

Hi Karen, yes I waited till the evening to have the enhanced affect of the shadows but at the same time I lost the clouds which I was hoping to still be there...I guess for clouds I needed to pay more money/hr....lol

Wow, that is a wonderful view-I've always wanted to go on a helicopter ride-for this view it would be well worth it. I like the shadows, I think they add a bit of definitions to the mountains and their uneven snowy surfaces. Interesting view.
