About The old art of weaving sweetgrass baskets is still alive in Charleston. In the city market and along highway 17, artisans gather sweetgrass, rushes and pinestraw to make their wares. The tradition is handed down by mothers and grandmothers to girls of 6-8. Only a few continue the tradition. These hands belong to Mazie, whose little stand is along the road in Mount Pleasant.

I don't know how I missed your "Praying Hands", Gerorge. Tha photo is definitely worth looking for and looking at. The dark brown hands on the blue background of the jeans are seen busy at weaving and the red "prayer" on the person's shirt, beneath the red house explains the caption.
Regards,
Rafi

Geroge,

Interesting capture and excellent photojournal.

Pity these people are paid pittance. Thats why the art is dieing off.

Regards,
ken.

Very nice, those hands have seen a lot of work. Being a medic I notice the veins,and the slight swelling (chuckle) but in this shot give the viewer a glimpse of the labor too. Dottie

Usted está correcto -- la idioma tiene sus barreras. Mi español requiere mucho más estudio-- y práctica. Espero que haya contestado a su pregunta. Mi español está en sus límites. :-}

Tony- Do you ask the meaning of the title?

I was thinking that working hands are praying hands. The word "PRAYER" is on her shirt as well. And I was thinking of Albrecht Durer's engraving called "Praying Hands."
I hope that is the answer you were after. Perhaps I should not try to be so clever with my titles! Or maybe I should work harder on my Spanish . . .
