About stovepipe wells dunes (aka mesquite dunes) in death valley. taken a few minutes, or possibly seconds, after the first photo. i framed it this way because i was trying to avoid the hazy background. turns out the hazy background worked on the first one. shot with monopod. what do you think?

A LUSH GREEN desert !!!!. Interesting.

I like this one than the other one.
This is more lively as the green vegitation becomes the subject with all that background. The previous image is a great landscape which lakes a good subject to focus the eyes on.

Regards, ken.

Hi Tom, What do I think? Spectacular! Very well composed photo. The low light and shadows add a lot of dynamism. Compared to the previous one, the sense of depth is slightly reduced, but the faint details of the mountain in the background do create an intriguing element in this shot.

Personally, I'd go for a bit more brightness and a tad more saturation, but I do recognise the D100 tones. (I uploaded a different colour profile to mine, which fits my personal taste better..., no need for post processing in order to revive the colour saturation I like any more)

Very good capture, the slow gradient from the shrubs in the foreground to the barren dune in the back is excellent. Very good shot!

Cheers,

Hugo

On the eadge of the Nullarbor Plain in Australia, there is a place which looks very similar. I lived there for a number of years. There is nothing like walking over dunes like this in the early morning, with the cool air on your face and the cool sand beneath your feet. In the evening, sand like this reflect the light of the stars and moon to give a truely ethereal glow. Here in Japan, I miss places like this. Thanks for the memories :)

hi lee, thank you! glad you dig it. it's not a "new" lens per-se. just making it's first appearances ;^) i dig it alot. very crisp as long as you keep it at f/8 or above. and it's not nearly as large and heavy as the 70-200mm.

my new lens is the 12-24mm DX. that thing is incredible!! best lens i've got, bar none. it's the one i used for "desert skies".

take care,
tom

Tom again a excellent capture.
The first had only a few trees and this one has many, I don't find the trees to be distracting at all.
You have a great eye, this composition is very good.
Again the shadows and lines are excellent.
Such a smoothness to the sand.
My complements.
