About The babies are growing up , The mother Robin met with a tragic accident. She flew into an industrial fan,at the factory where I work. I am now the mother to these 4 orphan baby Robins. They eat every 30min. All together over 100 worms a day.I have all my friends digging helping me out.The picture is slightly blurred due to slow shutter speed. The babies were jumping up and down because I held my hand over them to get them to open their mouths. They have accepted me as their mother.Maybe because I was always peaking in on their progress and they were use to my face since the day they opened their eyes.As soon as they see me now they start yelling feed me!

Oh Dan.... Linn Currie told me to look through these beautiful photos.... WOW WOW WOW is all i can say..... i posted one last night, but is no where near the quality of yours ...( well my camera is not good at long distance either, and have just bought the 20D which i'm waiting anxiously for in the post) they are just beautiful.... i sat for over an hour last night watching 'mum' go back and forth with her grasshopppers feeding them... just gorgeous, mother nature at her best, i don't normally take photos of nature, but i think now it's definatley on my priority list.... keep a look out as soon as the 20D comes in i'll go back and get some more photos of the babies!!!

This has turned out to be quite the story to follow! What a great one! You are my hero. Really, it is a great human interest story, with pictures. Your local newspaper would probably love it. I don't know which shot I like the best, they are all great.

You are a very good photographer for the animals. Like we say, it is not the "kodak" makes the picture but the photographer!

Hello "mother" Dan,
Unlucky mother robin, but, in a way you are lucky to see them grow up before your eyes. And know you have the change to feed them yourself!!!! Must be a lot of work to feed them every 30 min. Now I wonder.... how are you going to teach them fly when they are ready to????
Great capture!!!!
greeetings,
Diana.

Ellen Havrilla   {K:8618} 5/14/2004
Wonderful picture, Dan. A great responsability those 4 litle robins.
I have faith in your possibility to feed them, but how will you learn them to fly? Probebly there instincts will tell them what to do!
Kind regards
Ellen

I too, think you should set the "right" example, Dan, by chewing up the worms and stuffing them directly from your mouth to the baby's. Seriously...this is a great shot and an even greater story! I've watched you watch them, so I can attest to everything that you have said.

Dan, I was reading the story of these little guys and my heart goes out to them. Did you call the local conservation department to get tips on how to handle these critters as they start really getting of flying age and what to do to aid in their successful transition to the wild. I would think that since the mother ain't around that they wouldn't have a chance learning how to fly w/o the mom's help, etc. (Though I could be wrong.)

I know what its like to take care of ophaned animals as I get the occasional stray cat that I take in (now, at 4 cats)and it is a sad story from that perpective in my neigborhood anyway. Good luck and keep us posted.

Kindly yours...

Bill Webster

Do you have to chew them up and spit them out for them.

It's nice to see that your good deed has given you a great picture.

I want to see the pictures of when you teach them to fly.....
