Greek people are the most clever race in this planet. I like to play backgammon with them on the web. Hello petros! Thank you for your comment! It was soberb, but I need to clarify some things..My colegue Stamatakos said " I'm not sure that you fully understand the concept of exposure, but "Overexposing" (by definition) xp2 will not necessarily render you "grey" results. " As a matter of fact I do very well understant the concept of exposure, for me it is banal as it can be. Barely it is a concept in my point of view. I just gave people the tip that everexposing Ilford XP2 they would get a very low contrasted image and rich in tones of grey. Of course B&W is grey. Also, overexposing XP2 gives you a very very fine grain, you can expose it at ISO 50, BUT if you want contrast you need special papers and filters in the moment of the enlargement. Being fan or not of any technique is a matter of taste, very often I looove compressing tonal values. When I said this site is weird, I was just expressing what I really think, others sites are to me "not weird". Weird because I feel here as a not very " cult" site... photography has advanced a lot and usefilm looks too academic. If I get what I put in, it makes me wonder again because in other sites I get lots of clever comments, many people dislike, most people like. I dont care, but they comment at least. This photo " kalispera" is a home made image, with no pretention but registering the beauty of my friend Juliana, the model. She likes to dance, to pose, to produce herself whith cool dresses... I just controled the light in a way that I like and voila... c?est fait. That is a pitty that the negative is old and a bit ruined. Anyway, I like the rich grey scale and the soft image I got. People wants sharp images, saturated, razor sharp, good comp, etc.. I dont, many good artists dont. I dont say I?m an artist, but, I prefer to be in this free way. Gosh... I?m peeing on stars now. we were talking about exposure, well, some literature about XP2 will agree with me. I think this image would be a crap if taken with a tri-x... And yeah.. people like macros, blue sky, green landscapes, yellow trees, foggy kids, etc. I dont. I?m weird. Thanks for you help Petros. Sorry for my bad English. Kind regards, Athos.
I've looked at your portfolio, and you have some wonderful images. Regarding this photo specifically, compressed highlights don't do much to help the overall aesthetics of the photo. Composition is nice, although a little forced.
I read your "about", regarding the ilford xp2. I'm not sure that you fully understand the concept of exposure, but "Overexposing" (by definition) xp2 will not necessarily render you "grey" results. I just wanted to clarify that, in case a beginner read your "about" and took your comment for gospel. Personally, I'm not a fan of compressing tonal values accidentally or intentionally. Having said that, I can appreciate that in some instances doing just that can help in an image.
As for your comment, saying "this site is weird"; you get what you put in.
