About Three cute girls getting ready for a dance number for Cinco de Mayo. I didn't like the background and a wide open depth-of-field didn't help. So, I used stained glass texture from photoshop element 2.0.

Andy,

Thanks very much. The Gaussian Blur is more pleasing and that is the way I would have prefer it. I am new to Photoshop Elements 2.0 and I haven't tried all the options.

Excellent photo Brendon but I tend to agree with Andy. The mosaic is quite distracting but the blurred background forces you to look at the 3 girls and your capture of their expressions is marvellous :-)

When I don't like the background I will use Gaussian Blur to hide or cover those ugly or distracting backgrounds. For me the stained glass effect applied here seems to take away everything that you tried to achieve with the joyful children. Who are quite charming by the way.

Here I have taken your picture and applied gaussian blur at a value of 5.5 and it was that high to cover the stained glass effect. You would not normally have to go that high. If i had a situation like this where I wanted to disguise the background I might use a value anywhere between 2 and 4. The higher you go the more 3d your foreground will look and we don't that either.

Quite a festive shot though.

Andy
