Pretty good shot even little bit overexposed at the water's texture Jeff. The sky looks pretty good.

How sad...to welcome spring with frozen lakes.
I'm tellin' ya Jeff...come on down to San Antonio, our lakes have already thawed. ;)

It seems the whites are a bit blown out on tops of the clouds and on the left of the lake. One thing I always work at is to intentionally underexpose my shots to preserve detail. I then adjust levels, curves, and brightness/contrast in Photoshop as needed to properly light the image.

Hi Jeff, I like the hard light and almost overexposure of the photo; it stresses the gaining strenght of the sun. Well done, a lovely view....

Cheers,

Hugo

Imageopolis Featured Photo Critique Having lived in similar climates to Calgary, this photo definitely captures a strong feeling of springtime for me!

I really like the composition of this photo and how it gives equal time to the ground, water and sky. I like the slope of the ground in the bottom of the photo, but at the same time I feel seeing a little less tree would be nice, particularly because it's obscuring some potentially strong lines along the shore. The rolling clouds are great and they create some nice depth, though they are a bit overexposed, along with the icy lake. That's always a tough one - I personally find it hard to render sun on ice or snow without things getting all supernova on me . . . that's why I was thankful to get a neutral density filter for Christmas! :)

Boy does this look familiar. At least your snow is gone along the shoreline and the grass is greening while the tree is pushing forth buds. Soon you'll be chasing dragonflies for a macro shot. Have a great week ahead Jeff. I like this - Bill
