Just so you know, Beverly, I put this image up on my screen while I had my morning cup of coffee.

Beverly the lighting is the villian here..coffee as aromatic as it is needs a more delicate lighting due to its darkness...the cup is not dimensional here due to lack of fill and wrapping of light...steam or dry ice would work with a back light....Ill post a diagram for you that would work on this scene......

Thank you everyone for taking the time to comment on this one. Chris, this set up was planned, I have about 20 taken at the same time set up differently. Your suggestion about doing a series is an interesting idea, one I hadn't thought of but will pursue, thanks! As for the lack of steam...I tried to capture what was coming from the cup but couldnt pull it off and gave up, mainly because I was losing the daylight that lite this...I'll have to work on that..lol..Thanks again everyone. - Beverly :-)

I get a different impression.

The imaging is so perfect here that the lack of the cup
handle, lack of steam, and buried spoon handle in the
coffee beans has to be planned and a subtle comment to
create a cognative dissonance in the critic in me.
This image works for me - the question in the back of
my mind is was it intentional and if so what is the message
I am supposed to be taking back. I keep studying the
image, wondering if there will be another
clue - perhaps dark pecans in the spoon instead of coffee
beans - or perhaps one of the beans is really a beetle.

I'm with Gary on a bit of steam looking pretty cool. The only thing, and I only see the one thing, is the reflection from maybe the spoon on the coffe cup? I just love the way you captured the detail in the beans. And the coloring goes well together, the cup and beans. Beautiful image.

I like this so much! I agree that steam would indicate it was a piping hot fresh cup of coffee. In terms of composition, would it help to have the curved cup handle visible? By the way, you have lovely taste in china and silver.
