Thanks Julien for your interest, you expressed yourself quite well inspite of your tiredness ! The blurred spots are nothing but small coloured lights hung as decoration(known as tuny bulbs here).I kept them out of focus to blur them into coloured spots. The explanation was for the caption only, you can interpret the photo as you like with no cultural strings attached.I associate soft formless colourful lights with happy dreams, and that explains the dream part of the caption.
Well lets just say its the context of the www that makes it difficult for the big masses to appreciate this photo. I find it rather interesting with all the coloured blurred spots. I just would like to know how you did this.
Maybe a bit more space in the bottom part would have been nice too, so the lights there would have been just a bit more framefilling so to speak.
For you when you look at this photo, you know what this is about, witht your knowledge of this particular cultural background. It doesnt speak for itself... the photo I mean... when looking at it I wouldnt have know withouth your description.
But with your explanation the photo becomes more intresting as I can try to imagine what this festival must be like.
Can you accord this quality to the photo? Well maybe, maybe not. Do photos need to stand on their own, without description?? Would be hard... intertextuality has become very important in art. It would be nice if the intertextual element was in the photo instead of written under it... in the form of people or something else linking the lights to the festival...
Anyway to make some sort of coherent conclusion out of this brabling. I think this picture is more interesting then the ratings and number of comments might make believe. Although, beside some philosphical matters, you could say that in the appropriate context (modern art decoration of a house for example) this can be a very pleasing photo. For it to stand on its own and be intruiging would be more difficult...
Sorry for such a complicated comment !!! (I'm very tired)
