The light on the "elephant is what makes the image excellent , tone of the sky is irrelevant. (Almost rhymes).

I can see why the sky was added! The monotone blue doesn't add to the image at all. What about a little PS play to add a layer (5%) of blue over the sky? I am by no means a PS expert though... Becky's the person to ask about that!

Thanks Kim all others who gave helpful suggestions on this one. I like the basic shot but it does need some sort of remix to be really interesting. Matching tones and feel of the inserted background is always a great challenge for me. This is the original shot.

Even the thumbnail beckoned me to take a closer look! I think the toning down of the sky was probably needed, but maybe not the entire removal of colour. If there was a hint of blue in this sky it would mimic the hint of colour in the foreground and balance nicely, I think. AS well, the edges around the elephant seem to be a bit blurred, where you replaced the sky.. it looks a bit messy, but I know how finicky PS can be.
The sunlight on the "elephant" is wonderful... great timing and patience to wait for this one! As well, the placement of the elephant in the scene is nice... looking up to it gives it a more powerful feel.

I like blue sky and sky would be all right with me. I think this works very well on the theme for its a perfect mood. I like this composition.

Great composition and title Stefan. Very beautiful textures and form in the rocks. Dramatic sky that in my opinion does'nt fit in this scene totally. I personally prefer the sky in the photo tou did submit together with your answer to Fabio, wonderful blue with some small clouds. I do wish you and yours a Happy and Healthy 2004 from the Netherlands....Best regards Harry

Fabio - this is from Joshua Tree National Park in California. It is a stonehenge of sorts with all kinds of very unusual stone formations. Thanks for you comment, a nuance subtler is something I will try. I felt very fortunate to have the last rays of the sun hit this rock while keeping the foreground in shadow.

maybe to desaturate a bit (just a nuance of toning) the elephant's head?
nevermind, extremely powerful, this composition,
nightmarish
could you tell also where this magic place is? in italy? suppose, it's not only suitable for photographers, but also for all new-age-witches and wizzards, too
