cheers for the encouragement kam, and im glad you're enjoying the pics grant. Yes ive contemplated a wideangle lens but i really want shots that involve the viewer and take them close to the action and the 50mm get me in a bit closer n makes it a little more personal.
sean, yeah i know i didnt really want to post this one as to me its pretty badly out of focus but i thought bugger it some people might still like to see it. I hope im wrong but if your suggesting to use manual focus in the water that pretty impossible. ill just have to concentrate a bit more on the tracking next shoot. As for "metering setting" lol i just don;t know what that is.

sam, not bad. nice to see you using a 50 in the water. everyone is after the super wide angle look these days and to me it's over used. a 24 is about as wide as i get. your focus is off just a tad since the bodyboarder is a bit soft but the lip in the background is pretty sharp. i'm guessing you're using the AF on your camera. the movement of water can confuse the AF into focusing on the wrong part of the image. do you see where i'm going? the whitewater above his head is a little blown out. what metering setting are you using?

keep shooting. let's see some more.

Hi Sam

Keep the surf photos coming - I'm too far from the sea for my liking so I love some surf pics on this site.

As for advice on the photos, maybe work on the timing of the shot for when the lip is throwing over his head, of a surfer throwing spray on a turn. A wide angle lense would make this wave seem about 10ft & could make for some interesting shots. Subscribe to www.aquabumps.com - a Sydney surf report for some great surf/beach shots for ideas.

If your interested I have a shot from Costa Rica in my pics of good break.
