Thank You for Your comments. I may repost this image as there is much more detail available in the slide. I had used a friends flatbed scanner originally and the resolution was not as good as I had hoped. I have a film scanner now. This was from my first use of Agfa Scala slide film. I think I used an orange filter.

I found the shack in a field in northern Wisconsin. I think that the condition of the shack was just from years of neglect and harsh winters.

I really like your "Simplicity" image.

Thanks again, Robin

I like the different tones of this b/w shot, unfortunately it is so small....., about the house was it the result of a big storm?

best regards from Germany,
Pia:)

A good shot Robin, I expect I've seen (or stayed in!) this place as I get to Door
County regularly. The DOF and sharpness issues seem to me to be functions of uploading. I'm sure the original is fine. Not an unusual problem here, I'm afraid!
Anyway, nice work.
(Thanks for your comment on my Still Waiting image. I do of course understand the procedure for exposing snow. I chose to darken this image for mood and wanted to avoid too much contrast by keeping the snow too brilliant a white. Also, as you commented on, the sky behind was grey and I kind of like the color echo. The wire leading to the windmill is clear and crisp on the original and adds a structural element. It looks rather silly broken up in the posting. I wish you could see a better upload! Alas. As for the branches, I think that they keep the image from being too "perfect" and thus confected and unreal. On this Shack image, I'd have been tempted to remove at least the branches that intersect the shack, but then I think their mesiness adds to the whole tone. Maybe nice either way. I try to avoid too slick a presentation, since reality is so rarely that way. No complaints, and I really appreciate your comments. Oh, and the AE-1, I still have mine, my first serious camera, one of the first available, 1977? Haven't used it in years, though perhaps I should!)
Regards.
Tim

Yeah that explains the softness. I never did like glass mounts.

Chris, I believe it was in the scan. The original image is quite crisp with good DOF. I usually take most landscapes using Hyperfocal focusing to maximise the depth of field. I had already mounted the slide into a Gepe anti-newton glass mount before I scanned it. It protects the slide well but it can give a softer look to it. Thanks, Robin

Robin,

I really like the image that you created here. The tones are good as is the composition but the focus seems to be lacking although this could be a result of the scan. I like the angle you used here and I hope you shoot some close up shots of the texture of the building.

Robin----YES!! ..the parade came down Michigan and turned on to Whacker. That is Columbus...I can't believe I typed that!! (I had just come back from Rock Bottom with a half-gallon of their homebrewed wheat beer...kekekeke) Thank's for pointing that out...I won't fix the caption---I will just add a comment. I stand by my mistakes...

Now---this shack..nice angle. Is it for rent? Rental values in Door are pretty high during the right time of year. I like it!!
