I saw a group of horses in a field. One stallion and several mares with foals. There was a small grove of trees that I walked to, to get a closer shot. The stallion watched me and was very indignant that I was approaching. He made some challenging gestures, then herded his group behind a fence. He made one last charge at me, then stomped off. I caught his mood just before he left. Notice the tail action.
Thank you Vincent. I will definitely use 50 or 100 in future. My problem is that when I go out, I like 800 in the event there are different lighting opportunities. What I should do is focus on one subject at a time over a longer period of time i.e. time of day or type of day (sunny or cloudy) Or buy more cameras, to get them all in one day.
I see your point. In that case you have captured this quite well! Possibly using a polarizor would have enhanced the colors and reduced the glare a bit more. Do you have one?? The 800 speed does really not help much for a landscape type of image, I actually use 50 and occasionally 100 for all landscapes. The composition is indeed good, but colors are a bit bleached out. The horse is fine, but the rest of the image could use some tweaking. You could add some saturation in photoshop. Then again, if you want that wild west feel, this is pretty close!
Thanks for your comment, Vincent. What I was trying to capture was the "Big Sky" effect. The fence! well in my amateur way was to add that fences are restrictive and this noble animal lives in this environment. I have never seen the wild horses of Montana. Some day I hope to go there and spend more time in that state rather than drive through it.
A nice shot and great story. The image would be even better in my opinion, if you cropped out the fence and some of the sky. This is still good as is though. Nice job.
