I'm just holding my hand up to the monitor trying things out. What if you chopped out the whole right side of the photo so that only the darker part remainded ( leave an inch or so on the right for a border ). Maybe cut a bit off the bottom as well ?! (trying to meet the golden ratio of 1.6 [long side / short side ]). I like the dark leaves in the closeup - and by themselves it should be pretty dramatic. You might try turning into a portrait and chop both the darkest left and brightest right side off (and a bit of the bottom) - so that only the leaves in the middle with sun on them remain. Try a bunch of things and compare them.
The right side is washed out and detail is lost. If the detail is still in the original - dry using a dodge & burn brush to darken the background.

I actually like this crop. The upper right of the image is a bit too bright for me. If you try similar type shots, maybe watch the lighting so that the foreground is brighter that the background. This will make for more impact and drama.
