Agree 100% with your subsequent reflection on the shot... took the liberty... hope it's OK with you.

Thanks to all for the comments. I welcome a thoughtful exchange of ideas. That's one reason for going through this exercise in the first place.

Now--to the point. Amitava is absolutely right--and I could have done (even considered doing) everything suggested. Then you get to a matter of intent. I wanted a sort of loose, improvisational quality that reflected the moment and the occasion. Certainly, a more formal symmetrical version would be appealing and is well worth consdering.

Thinking about it further, I wonder whether a b&w version would have served my idea even more effectively.

Again--thank you for yor comments. I do appreciate your help.

Jose Luis, I wholeheartedly appreciate the constraints of spontaneous candids. However, there is always scope for correcting such problems in the darkroom, wet or digital. That's what I was suggesting.

Amitava, I understand your simetry. But some times you have just a second, and if you don't shot, you will loss the mainly reason of the picture. I think this is one of them...
nice work George!
cheers for all.

Nice portrait. Lighting's a little harsh and composition not quite vertical. If you can rotate it slightly to line up the verticals with the edge of the frame and reduce conrast slightly, this would be even better IMO.
