About In the laundry at dusk. Looking into it, the room was almost dark, with gentle variations as your eyes got used to it.

I think the exposure is perfect. Any more light would have produced a totally different mood. It speaks to me about the past, about those who once lived there. Perhaps a happier time.

Still feels a bit dark, throwing some light into the ceiling with a flash would have helped a bit to open the shadows.

Great shot, if you'd have told me this was shot in 1940 in the gorbals (sorry, I'm not sure where you're from, the Gorbals were slum housing in Glasgow, scotland) I'd have believed it. You've really captured a human story without actually showing any people. Anyone could look at this photo and be asked to describe how it makes them feel and they would instantly talk about people. The depth of focus is just right, just enough blurring of the extreme forground but plenty of clarity throughout the rest of the frame. I'm a new 10d user so I'm delighted to see people using it to shoot quality images like this. Its a pity that drier on the left looks a bit too shiny, throw it down the stairs a couple of times and then re-shoot!!!

A very effective use of black and white,Richard. A very atmospheric image, well- executed. Best wishes. David.
