July 2000. There are more then 35? Celtius in Rome, like usual, this is always like that here in summer. Suddenly in the immoveble choking air a big fire explodes: the pine-forest in Ostia burns...more than 10 Km x 5 Km unexpectedly take fire, in different points fire brakes out at the same exact moment. A heavy black cloud of smoke covers the sky of Rome for a long afternoon. The sky remains black for days and days. I was in Berlin when it happened and as I heard the news I couldn?t stop to be sad and furious for weeks long. Then I came in Rome, to visit my parents, and I wanted to see with my eyes what the stupidity of men and the thirst for money can provoke (close to this area someone is bulding a residential quarter and the free land is almost finished). Tina, a friend of mine from Sardinia, was also our guest in that period, with her doughter Daniela. They are in the picture. This was the first journey for Daniela in the ?continent? (this is the way people from Sardina call the italian peninsula), and this was the gloomy spectacle in front of her little unesperienced eyes.
