Kim, wonderful image, and I much prefer the original to the crop. I'd like to add my own answer to Ronald?s question. Personally I consider it to be a marriage of all three elements; self, lens and object. However, I ultimately create the photo through the use of the lens and the object. I say that ultimately the creation lies in my hands because should an image not turn out, I can only blame myself, not the object or the lens.
Just my .02

Ronald... thanks for your comment and to answer your thoughts, I don't believe I would get the effect I was going for if I shot this with a 50mm lens. I do use the 50mm for a lot of things, but sometimes I want "artsy" and "photographic" to make these things stand out. I believe that the combo of my idea and the equipment work together to create my vision... here it was an old fashioned chest and the 28mm lens. Not every picture should be about true life... photography can be about distorting the realistic. Just my thoughts!

i think one should be careful using wide-angles.I like the ordinary 50mm best. It so obviously 'photographic',if you know what i mean. How about trying an ordinary cardboard box, using a 50mm. Will it still be 'hidden secrets'? Who makes the photo: you , the lens, or the object?

Roy... like this? I think I'm partial to the original, but this does lengthen out the chest as well.

Lovely tones in this image. Try trimming a touch of the black on the left off... Nice.

Kim, I really like this. It might be even better if you proped it open 2 0r 3 inches with something black inside so it would not be visible.
