Inside Hawaii's Mt. Kileauea, away from the public trails. You can't stand in this spot for too long, as the ground temperature is about 125 degrees. When the wind blows toward you, the steam visible in the photo carries the smell of sulfur. There are solidified walls of sulfur behind me. It's an amazing place.
I tend to agree with Jamie on this one about the mid-frame horizon line, Peter, although it still is an interesting shot of a stark and mysterious place. Maybe in this case, using the Rule of Thirds and de-emphasizing the sky for the primary subject of the terrain would make this shot even more dramatic. Nice work, all that being said.
Hostile looking place there Peter, might have benefited from not so harsh a horizon through the middle of your image. Great job getting the clouds exposed as well as the ground and the sulphur shows on the rocks, love to visit there one day.
