About
Bitteroot or Lewisia redviva is a pretty large flowered low scabland plant. Meriwether Lewis named this plant and he first collected it in Montana in 1806. He dried the root and noticed months later that the plant seem to still be alive. He planted it and it came back to life and he gave it the species name after him and redviva which means restored to life. Roots had to be dug in spring so they not as bitter but still had to be dried and then mixed with service berries and salmon eggs.
