About Lots of skills involved here. First you need to rope the calf, then dismount and pickup the calf, then tie 3 of his legs together. All the time you horse is keeping steady pull on the rope.

You are correct. They get a 10 second penalty for breaking the barrier (leaving early) and the calf must stayed tied for 6 seconds. Then its a timed event and lowest elapse total time in 3 events usually wins.

and if I'm not mistaking, they are timed on how long it takes them to tie the calf up. Shortest time is the winner!
