Don't worry about breaking the rules Donna, some of the best shots are done by doing so. I had to look at this one as I just posted one similar to it, great composition, would even work darker with just a silhouette.

I really appreciate the positive comments and the suggestions. This is one print that I feel strongly about how I composed it. I know that the rule is not to center something, but I feel that it works here, being somewhat offset with the glow of the reflected sunlight angling toward the right and his head turned to the left. And I like how the swan rests in the center of the concetric circles, probably formed by his dunking his head in the water to feed. I just wish I felt so sure of many of my other photos!

Beautiful symmetry, perhaps if you cropped some of the water at the bottom, it would look better. I love the ripples in the water and the pose of the swan. Keep up the good work, as I know it's hard to photograph birds - see the ones in my portfolio. Cheers, Alice.

Lovely shot! I would crop something from the right leaving more space in the swan's look direction. Regards, Y.D.

What a beautiful view.. graceful and romantic.. try cropping the pic so that the swan is not in the middle.. just a suggestion :)
