About For years and years I have wanted to see this. As Americans moved west to expand the nation, they followed rivers. They needed water. Tens of thousands passed along-side this river. This is the Platte River, a major artery in westward expansion. But this is why I needed to see it... the descriptions of the Platte River are varied and colorful but the best one I ever read said: "The Platte is too dirty to drink and too wet to plow." And finally I stood over the Platte. Not the Tiber, not the Euphrates... it was the Platte... and the stories that flowed by this spot are historic. In America it is said; "The cowards stayed behind, the weak died along the way... those who survived the journey are called pioneers."
