About	Rachel's family fled Danzig (today Gdansk) in 1940, at the very last moment before Hitler hermetically sealed the frontiers of Europe. Grandfather Leopold, a central figure in Danzig refused to leave before the last Jew had escaped & perished in a Nazi concentration camp. Susie (Rachel) fled with her grandmother & her parents.

grandfather leopold was a hero, so very much needed against nazi killers (then and now).
