About My lab screwed up my velvia with C-41 processing instead of E-6. So, all they could do is to print as b&w... and the result is here...

As always your comments and critiques are welcomed.

Great light/shadow study! It works quite well in B&W. A classic!!!

My first thought was "How great would this be in colour?" Then I read your comments... I hope your lab was very very ashamed and made it up to you!
The lighting caught my eye right away. Love the deep shadows on the petals as well as the great DOF.

It's great to see a 'flower shot' with a difference. Normally, considering the direction the rose seems to be facing, I would be inclined to position the 'eye' somewhere in the bottom right quadrant - yet looking at this photograph, I find that this composition works extremely well, and gives the photo that special touch.

At first the lighting may seem somewhat extreme, with strong highlights on the one hand and strong shadows on the other. I don't know whether the difference in brightness could have somehow been enhanced by the mis-processing. However, it is not distracting, as the shadows blend nicely with the normal texture of the petals. Also it subtly divides the picture into a lighter part and a darker part. All in all, a very interesting and appealing photograph.

A happy error except that the shadows are darker than I prefer. At first I thought it was IR. I have an IR version of this agave in my portfolio. A little warming with sepia tint might be interesting.
