Shirley!

This image makes me want to go out right now and grab some food while there still is some. There is no turning back now.

The power of photography to transform unassuming lustless nibblers into full-blown meganoshers.

Shirley, you're not alone...
My wife knows exactly how it is...

Relax, go shooting. With your camera, I mean.

My best,

Shirley, don't take things too hard.
And I'm serious on my congratulations, believe it.
Remember: men are from Mars, women from Venus.

Dear Jose, please forgive me. It is almost a full moon, and I'm more emotional at this time. Add to that, my boyfriend has been neglecting me for weeks, so I'm not in the happiest of moods, and I didn't mean to take it out on you.;):)

Dear Jose, I appreciate all of your suggestions. However, first of all, I don't use Photoshop...I use an old, cheap and simple software...Microsoft PictureIt 2000. I know this program inside and out. The tools are completely different than those in Photoshop. Perhaps someday I'll be able to learn Photoshop, but for now, this is it for me.

Since this particular photo was not meant for a serious competition, I'm not all that worried about the final result not meeting your standards. However somehow, I've managed to win awards all over the world with my photos, using just this simple program.

Hi Shirley,

Photoshop is like a supermarket - it contains all the ingredients and it's up to everyone to make the receipe his way.
If the idea was to bring ou details in the building, I'd have used Curves, Selective Color or both.
On the other hand, if you wanted an art déco look, then you should've used it a bit more. i believe the problem I see is that it's neither this or that, it satayed in the middle, looking something it was not supposed to - at least for my eyes. I'm saying so for I'm an art director who works with images everyday - for more than 20 years - and I like the image.

Anyway, as I said, I like the image, it has that Edward Hopper mood someone else mentioned, but in my opinion if the "effects" were less obvious, less distracting, it would leave a better impression.

May I suggest you post the original, without the Neon effect, just a Curves correction?

Regards,

José Azevedo

Thank you so much for your comments, Jose. However, if you're referring to the white outline, I selectively layere with a neon glow effect, to bring out details in the building that otherwise were too dark. It is not from over sharpening. It is meant to give it more of an 'art deco' look, which is what they saw when I presented them with the print.

Hi Shirley,

I like the composition and the colors, which contribute to a nice mood.
But you've sharpened it TOO much (the window shades' blades became noises) and the cut you did in the sky to retouch it left a white line, which is more evident thanks to the oversharpening. This breaks the mood, the atmosphere, and become distractions that should not be there for they distract attention from the positive points of the image.
Play with Photoshop but try to keep it on pair with reality. The results will be much more gratifying.

Regards,

José Azevedo
