I am only glad if inquisitiveness manages to kick on some processes in mind, Marana! Especially when I see talent that is nit as cultivated as it should. (And for heavens sake it has to be cultivated or else there will be no new experts!)

First of all, don't even mention such things to me like "meanings" in photography. I don't discuss about them, partially because (as you said) there can be as many "meanings" in an image as spectators who look at it. Which also tells that we can't set any basis for photography discussions by relying on "meanings". I only discuss about techniques, possible techniques in order to get exactly the image that one has in mind *priorly* to shooting. These techniques are not at all "anti-artistic", as many too many naives will say, but they are *the* tools that allow us to make that subtle translation from intention into a real existing image.

And so I won't "decide" about a "meaning". I will only ask you to tell me sincerely what *you* wanted to do, in order to be able to tell you if *your* intention has been translated to a real image. I am not here in order to tell you what I "see" in your images. Exactly *this* is the egomanic part of most of the wannabes who think that it just suffices to write some "aetherial ooooh sooo emotional story" as a "comment" - but this is no comment. It is just garbage, and in fact also disrespectful garbage for the work of others.

So, should you have had some certain intention here, then tell it to me. It doesn't have to be something completely "solid". It can be as well just a vague one. And then I can tell you anout the image only in the sense of being adequate for your intention - of course only in the sense I see it. But don't expect me to join that pseudo-philosophical rubbish about "oooh so many ways to see" and the like. You know, as an active academic in the fields of mathematics and cognition science/philosophy, and as a semi-professional photographer I have neither the time, nor the will to explain 3000 times the most basic things to all possible kinds of people who think that the truth si what they consider it to be.

So, did you have an intention here? Just tell me, what was it? And be just open and dorect to me. There are no other disucssions than diorect and open ones, ey?

Cheers!

Nick

Quite an inquisitive comment, Nick :)

First of all, thank you very much for the feed-back, I'm such a beginner and technical comments are useful for me.

About the "meaning" of this image: I think if we ask 100 human beings about what is to be seen there, we'll get 100 different answers. You want to know my answer, actually. Why don't you chose for yourself ?

Best wishes, Marana.

A very good tonal range and so also a very well done exposure balance, Marana. The limited DoF just on and around the woman achieves to out the spotlights on her. A pity that the usual oversharpening turned so many on the contours and lines on her so unatural and... digital! (??) But the diffuse light on the depth regions in front and behind her region in depth seem to re-assemple the whole scene adequately.

The presence of the other photographer eliminates much of what could have been "a solemn moment" otherwise but it also introduces an additional touch of "the artificial in the natural". It is only that the (pretented) thoughtful moment looks too much like a "cheap pose" this way. If it was such a silent moment that you wanted to get, then the other guy in the background should disappear. But if it was exactly this "artificial lie" of an image that you wanted to get, then the image is great.

Cheers!

Nick
