Hi Nick,
Thanks again for the great comments on this one. I will I'm sure take many more of this subject. :)
I might even get a chance two weekends from now due to the fairly warm weather recently. Usually there is snow up there by now.

Hi Andre!

Well, and I thank you for the great image, that is. I visited it some more times and again... it is one of those that grow on someone. Perhaps this could be said to be one of the very personal elements on your signature? I think that I see in the meanwhile that you don't just post images that boom for a few days and disappear into "amnesia" afterwards. No, our Andre seems to stay in much more quiet paths, but as we all know the power lies within quietness. Maybe one of the very recognizable characteristics of your Kung-Fu, Andre. Maybe...

Thanks a lot for the elaboration on the situation as it was when you shot it. It gives me much to think about my own attitudes to, since I would rather not try the shot under such conditions and without the tripod. But as I see here, many times one could also think about turning the disadvantage into a benefit, or as we say in German: "Aus der Not eine Tugend machen". (To turn troubles or destitution, if you will, into a virtue.) It strats looking to me, as if this could also be a very very good exercise in being able to adapt to any given situation, be it as hard as it can take, and to also... in some way, let's say "do it an honor", in the sense of getting its character by using the available means, rather than denying that just because of the impossibility to use the own trusted methods. It includes a much closer examination and respectful contact with the subject, I guess.

So I am only glad if you continue practicing, since the more you practice the more I can learn. Continue, continue! ;-)

Hi Nick,
Thanks for the great comment.
Yeah, I did like the soft look to the trees in this one. They seemed to blend nicely with the fog and still water. I was unprepared, without a tripod that day. I would have like to take some more shots with the f stop around f18 or f22. That would have given me some sharpness at the tree line for sure. But, I would have needed the tripod to bring my shutter speed down significatly. I'm very lucky to have this scene right off our own dock at our summer cottage. So, I will be practicing some more next year no doubt. :)

Though I miss some more sharpness on the foliage on the other side of the lake, the image still convinces me as a whole, Andre! We see that many times the whole is more than the sum of its parts, I guess.

The exposure balance was surely just about perfect for such a good light on the darker trees and also on the much lighter water. The latter looks really like water, by the way. Despiet the fact that it is so flat and without textures on a big part of it, it only conveys the impression that things can sink into it. Surely the reflection of the tress helps realizing that it is the surface of the water, but with so much "regularity" on the foreground I wouldn't expect such a "watery" look.

Not to speak about the haze that enhances the sence for deoth. It could also be that it worls hand in hand with the surface of water in the sense that they both show us the dorection toward the depth of the image.

Cheers!

Hi Kes, Yeah, sometimes it can be this calm even in November. It is very peaceful when it gets a little colder due to the lack of most boat traffic. (they are calling for 10cm of snow next Friday. Way too soon for me. )

Thanks Andrzej,
I did take several images that morning and tried all sorts of different crops. They all looked good to me ;) I know what you mean about the vertical split.
You better get up there pretty fast. They are calling for 10cm of snow for next Friday. Even if it doesn't stay on the ground, all the leaves will be gone.

Hi Andre! Wow, what a neat shot! It looks like you could glide across with one stroke of the paddle. Looks like it's tarting to get chilly.

looks so good and I'm truly enjoy it. Great job Andre. I would try to be a bit more off centered in vertical split.
I may go one day soon to the area for some autumn shooting challenges. Staying on the north side of Diamond Lake and travel my favorite places.
Cheers, NJ

Thanks Dave,
It was almost mirror perfect. If it wasn't for the water weeds and lily pads, you wouldn't be able to tell which half was up and which was down.

Nicely done morning shot, Andre! I like the reflection you've caught, and the very atmospheric mood.
Dave.
