About This is a two minute long or less seascape image looking down from a cliff onto the rocks in the surf zone.I decided to try this image again, but converted it to black and white and increased the contrast using PS "levels" control. Personally, I'm liking this better that the original color version.

Thanks Shirley. It's something I'd like to have, and when I'm ready I will definitely do a lot of research.

Since my scanner is at least 5 yrs old, I would recommend reading reviews of scanners in photo magazines, or online. The average image size from my scanned slides is around 2400 X 3600.

Is there a Costco in your area? They do excellent prints from slides very reasonably. Also there is Mpix.com, which is wonderful. Good luck.:)

Mind me asking what you have, or a recommendations. I know that at $20 to $40 per slide, a scanner would pay for itself quickly. It's not in my budget in the near future, but I would have a lot more control over what I could do.
Not just the color, but the image size.
These images from Freddies are 1818 X 1228.

I usually had my "good" slides converted to 16 X 20 or occasionally 20 X 24 prints and they come out very nice.
I'm not a digital person, but I know that I would need a fairly large image size from a scanner to do that same thing.
I appreciate your input.

You're welcome for the comments. The scans you are getting done are definitely giving your photos a strong cyan cast...not so good. It would be worth your while, if financially possible, to invest in a slide/film scanner. They have come way down in price. But I know how it is, living on Social Security.;)

Thank you Shirley. I never did like the original because the color is so strange. It took a lot of work to get the right contrast levels in this black and white version. I was very happy with the result.
Thank you for all the nice comments.

LOVE this in B&W! Would make a great setting for one of my 'mystical' creations.;)

Thank you for the comments. I didn't used to like this image so much because the original color was so unusual.
Making it B&W made such a difference.

Nice effects and good long exposure for the silky effect. Good tones and interesting shapes and voids. The b/w conversion is great. Keep playing, always good surprises.
Be well, Stan

If ya want to get your freak on.......... flip it upside down and paste in behind another image as a nasty lookin' sky. hee hee.

Thank you Anthony. I was very happy too once I came up with a method that worked. It "pops" more than the colored one.
Now I may try it with my other similar image. I think I will still like this one best.

Thank you jacques. I am learning how to use an old photoshop program. Digital manipulation is quite new to me, and I am experimenting.
Prior to having my slides concerted to a CD, I had very little "good stock" to work with.......... just some snapshot quality 400 speed negative film images.............. most just boring work related images.
Now that I found a place to convert to CD's, some of my slides, this is opening up a new interest.
Mainly I am cleaning them up. This one I converted to B&W but discovered I can lighten the lights and still retain the darks.
I am just learning this by trial and error, but quite happy with this one.
Thank you jacques.

At first blush Randy, I thought this was molten lava. Reading your "About" set me aright on that misperception.

This is wonderful; spectacular - I much-prefer it to the coloured version. Here we have captivating tones in abundance. My eye runs around looking for, and being satisfied by, more and more of the gradations and sheer detail this image contains. I love it. Into my favourites!

Anthony
