god the last drive in I saw was at Chinchilla.. up in Queensland.. (a state north of here) as we roared past in a bus headed west to central Aust I didnt manage to get a shot away.. but instead wrote a poem.. one day I will send it to you.. ahh the drive in.. I had a camping body in the old EJ (a model of Holden car I once owned.. my first car in fact cost $500 cash.. I saved up and bought it I was on $63.46 per fortnight in those days.. I however, digress; I use a semi colon as I wish to end the thought but not the sentence so the EJ (which I nicknamed Charlie Wheeler because the number plate was CWL 868 and so Charlie Wheeler cam from the CW bit.. not only that but Charlie Wheeler is rhyming slang for sheila which is an Oz slang word for a youngish say 18-25 year old girl/woman.. so Charlie Wheeler had a camping body which meant that the back of the front seat folded down level with the front of the back seat.. turning the inside of the car into a sort of bed thingy so you could sleep in it… No we (me and .. well lets just call her K at this stage.. would goto the pub and get a bottle of (when I think back on it terribly unsophisticated) Mardi Gras which was a nasty sweet fizzy wine (which me old dad used to call Muddy Grass as a sleight against this drop) we would then goto the Chinese restaurant and get a takeaway meal for two head off to the drive in put down the camping body eat and drink up.. (in those days the old man hadn’t thought up the RBT (random breath testing) laws we also used to slip down to the snack bar and get a packet of pop Cornish kinda stuff called Lolly Gobble Bliss Bombs.. amazing.. what stuff was that.. and of course if the mood took us and the windows had fogged up enough we could have a wee sleep on the camping body… civilisation was at its peak and there were steam powered gondolas plying the Venetian canals.. oh and thanks for reminding me.. although the Caringbah (ka ring bar) drive in was nothing like the pic u have put up.. but thanks anyway
