I could still go for sharp focus as the light was not that strong but also not very weak, but the color of the street light and the rather "smooth" and glossy metal surface without any textures was good for a "soft" one for my perception. So it was just opening the aperture completely, focusing on the object, and then bringing it out of focus until it looks "soft enough". I can't imagine what it would look like with a sharp focus. I guess not really much different, but of course only taking the image in sharp focus would tell with certainty.
The grain in this case is not as good for me, as it re-introduces some "texture-like" effect where I was going for a soft look and feel. So, for me it looks as if a lower film sensitivity (and a tripod) would do good.

Well observed .. nice picture!! You right ..Focus appropriate for this light ..It would be difficult a sharp with low light..; nice grains too.
