The best things I found in her room were not those bits MM and I gave as gifts... but the objects and such she gathered on her own. Things that made me smile and nod. When folks ask me how the kids are doing, I have this standard answer: "They don't live at home and they don't borrow money."

Ahh the kids who have flown the nest. The scraps that they leave behind. What emotions.. Personally we are thinking of moving and keeping in phone contact and all but not ACTUALLY letting them have our address when the young un( Elis intended) has moved on...

Saad, this photo was taken in 1945. It was taken on VJ Day (Victory over Japan) when the Japanese surrendered and World War 2 ended for America. Earlier in the year we also celebrated on VE Day (Victory in Europe ) when the German army surrenderd. This photo was snapped and shows a sailor kissing a nurse... neither one knew the other... it was just a moment of joy and love and relief... the war was over. This one image embraced all the hurt and anger and pain and turmoil the world suffered during the war... then gave athe world a great sigh of relief that the war was finally over. In America (and other countries) we have a handful of photos we call "Iconic." Definition: a picture or symbol that is universally recognized to be representative of something. Here are a few links to some iconic American photos: http://www.historyimages.com/WWII/Times-Square-Kiss.jpg http://faculty.evansville.edu/rl29/art105/img/lang_migrantmother.jpg http://forum.broke-off.com/uploads/post-4-1063208664.jpg http://www.regi-shoes.com/images/Image/adidasAliFight.jpg http://www.olafire.com/JohnJajkowski.asp
There are more, but this should do for now.
