About I think that this needed a greater DoF again. Any comments would be very welcome.

Thanks a lot for your time (and also patience) with me, Valeroj! I can be such a blockhead at times!

OK, one thing after the other, for my brain to be able to follow. ;-) Didn't good old Valerij said *the left* flower, Nick? Huh? It was about the *left* one! So, now I think that this was accepted by my brain! Looking at your crop, I see now that the flower in the middle needed to be in the DoF. But what it would look like? I pasted the one on the left on the one in the middle on your attachment, and I see now what you mean. But then, I think that the left one (the half) has to be out of focus. I softened it on the attachment. Does it look a bit better now?

Flowers are indeed hard to capture. Not only for competing but also just for themselves. It can get so hard to find the interesting, or more photogenic part of some group of flowers, for me at least.

Another blockhead's price for me.. that "diaf". It was so easy! But too high for me to get that, ey? So it's only the same like for example in Germany, where some years ago it was "Photographie" and now it is "Fotografie", and I am searching for possible abbreviations and acronyms. Thanks a lot, Valerij, for salvaging me!

I must go drink a coffee now! Perhaps this could put my grey cells (*if* any at all!!!) back to work again.

Alterations after Valerij's ideas

Valerij Reznikov Valerij Reznikov   {K:3367} 8/24/2008
Nick, I was thinking of the following version - .

You are right about the flowers. They are so beautiful and are so largely photographed that trying to compete in this is very challenging.

"closer diaf" is a more closed diaphragm and thus bigger DOF. Greek "ph" in some languages (including Russian), is transliterated by "f" letter.

Ciao, Valerij

Thanks a lot for the nice detailed comment and the suggestions, Valery!!!

Yes, exactly. If the DoF was greater then also the central flower would be in focus. I guess this had to be.

Your idea for a composition I find really good, if I got you right. Do you mean something like the attachment? I think the image is much more "integrated" this way. Thanks a lot!

BTW, the series cannot be that good. If it were good then the images wouldn't need so many corrections. The flowers themselves may be as beatiful as they can be, but the images of them... that's another story, ey? ;-)

Cheers!

Cropped (hopefully) after Valery's idea

Thanks a lot Aziz, but what is a "diaf"? Is that some abbreviation for something?

Cheers!

Hi Nick!

You are right, more DOF would be welcome. And a sharp focus on that central flower head. As to the compositon - either you do not crop the left one or cut it in half. IMHO.

BTW I love all your summer flowers series. The flowers are so beautiful!

This one needed a closer diaf, I believe.
Cheers
Aziz
