About An interesting tree for a shot. I find the loss of focus in the foreground quite a pity in this case. But perhaps still OK for posting. Any comments would be very welcome.

If only the focus on the roots was also adequate! Oh well...

Thanks a lot again, Ian!

Cheers!

the leafy floor defines the roots nicely here Nick.

Of course trees are living creatures, Harry, that's nothing new.

The thing is, I don't depend on such medieval superstitions about trees and any other living thing around that "gives me something", since exactly this kind of thinking can also turn to the opposite, like for example believing that black cats can give you bad luck. The tree and the cat do not have anything to do with all that human made beliefs. Should I hug a tree and feel something, then it would not be the tree. It would be just me.

Your "own" experience was really your *own* experience. Don't raise your feelings to laws of nature - they are a completely different thing! Because if you do that I want the mathematical proof of that, and this is definitely not writing to me about what you felt. Your brain generated that feeling, not the tree. The tree didn't even care. For me it could as well have been a stone. Should I tell the world about some kind of "hidden truth of stones", just because "I" happened to feel something special by holding some stone? Is that what you mean with "rational scientific"???

Generally speaking it is only human arrogance to believe that any other being at all is there for giving us something. They are there just for being, not for making me personally happy or sad. The anthropocentric view of this world is bible belief and nothing more. We know what results this has brought.

Of course this doesn't mean that one doesn't care about trees and other beings. Quite the contrary! It rather means that we have to overcome that naive impression about other beings that are there for "giving us" something. Best love for other beings is... let them be as they are and don't expect any kind of "good" or "bad" from them. Don't project your personal needs on them! Don't enslave them this way!

Cheers!

Youd be surprised. A tree is a living creature.
Some can give love to your soul.
( own experience, and btw i am electrical engineer so very rational and scientific ).

Many many thanks for the nice detailed comment, Dave!

So, from your comment and from Harry's I do realize much better that I must try that again with more DoF. Those roots are indeed such a pity to not be in the absolute focus!

Cheers!

Thanks a lot for the nice detailed comment, Harry! So I must go up there again some time and get a larger DoF.

Oh, BTW, do you really want me to hug trees like the naive naturalists that run around with crossed eyes and think of nature as if it was their personal idea of Disneyland? ;-) No, thanks, I'd rather hug my girlfriend for love. A tree I would perhaps hug because of being so glad for finding the right wood for an electric guitar!!! ;-) But since I have mine I just leave them in peace and play them heavy metal. They grow better then! ;-)

Cheers!

Thanks a lot again, Aziz!

Well, way excellent it isn't! The visible loss of focus on the foreground (again) turned it perhaps "OK" but for excellent it needed more. Still glad if you like it!

Cheers!

Nicely composed and I like the contrast of colour, Nick! I agree more dof would make it a little stronger, but still a very nice shot.

A powerful root system the 'beukenboom' has.
I would recommend this one for hugging, just put your arms around it. If you are a good man it will give you love. Otherwise green stain on your white bankers shirt ;-)
