Yep, you can't go wrong with this one, Paul...she's a real beauty, although I agree with Julie about the heavy eye makeup.:)

Paul, great glamorous pose with her hair blooming aside. I like her sweet famine smile. The shot shows a vibe, truly. Cheers, NJ

Have enjoyed the feed back on this image given by Joe Brown, very helpful. As for myself, I find the young lady to be very attractive but the eye make-up is a little over done IMHO. Then again, perhaps I'm too old fashioned. The less make-up the better, I must be behind the times :-)

She should find a better MUA :( It's a beautiful shot -you did your part very well, Paul- but glam or not, the eye makeup is not flattering on her at all..

Hi Paul, I totally agree with your Usfilm sentiments. I have enjoyed this discussion and have found it a learning exercise as I have said my experience in this type of photography is very limited.
Regards, Joe

Oh, I NEVER tire of talking photography, Joe. :)
Yes, I think that does it. Certainly in the context of swimsuit, you'd want to learn toward high-key, sunny settings, which your latest edits imply.
I am pleased to engage in a true critique of an image, instead of the often vapid "Great Shot!" comments which don't help me refine my skills, Joe. I am here to learn and grow, not to stroke my ego, and Usefilmers possess an incredible depth of knowledge.
Thank you for that, and you're welcome back any time with any image.

I suspect you are getting tired of me by now. :) You are right my version did introduce some clipping. Using PS CS3, primarily shadow/highlights, it is possible to brighten the image without clipping. Here is my second attempt without clipping according to the CS3 hisogram. I think this version is a little warmer which you might or might not like. This also, can be corrected. I will leave you in peace now. :)

I like how your levels adjustment brightened it a bit, but it also caused clipping in her hair.
Here is the histogram of the original image, which is technically almost perfect (just shy of pure white).

The catch-lights are very nice. Now knowing that you used a reflector and looking at it a again, on my monitor the image looks a slightly underexposed. What do you think of this? Joe

Thanks for articulating your comments, Joe. You're right that the background could have been more uniform.
She was lit up with a 4-foot reflector, which is how I created the catch-lights.

First, I like your shot and said it is well done including a number of positive comments. Yes, to a degree, I find the bg distracts from the rest of the image. If you are doing fashion, glamor outside the studio I feel it is important to pick an appropriate, none distracting background such as a beach, something that is constant in colour and texture. Something else I didn't mention on my initial comment. It does not look like you used a reflector or slave to accentuate and brighten her face. I think this would also improve the shot. Of course this is only my opinion which is questionable as I have admittedly done very little of this type of photography. Cheers, Joe

Seriously? You think the amorphous shapes behind her are distracting? That's a reality of location shooting.

She IS naturally beautiful, Julie. She had worked with a makeup artist to go a bit glam for this shoot.
