About This shot was taken 5 minutes before a fatal accident happened last week Wednesday.

Not the cow was severely harmed ….but my camera !
The art in Photography does not explain its miracles, even the hazard, after it happened, is no hazard anymore.

My story :
I enjoyed a kayak trip in a lake and channel area in the province Noord-Holland in The Netherlands.
I felt such happy also with taking plenty of shots from my kids, flowering water lilies, wind mills, pleasant meadows, beautiful skies and gorgeous water scenery.
Suddenly and unfortunately I lost control, myself and my $500 Lumix, 10M pixel camera with built-in Leica zoom fell into the water, about 1 meter water depth and sank into the mud. I immediately grabbed it out, standing in the mud myself and with a laugh and some regret I rescued it from sinking to nowhere, although now completely full of water. ACCIDENT. No personal damage so whatever, laughing all around me.
I removed the battery and memory card, but the camera didn’t show to be in good shape anymore
After 48 hours of repeated drying in a 40 degrees oven I managed to recover all pictures as taken before the accident. However until seven ! days later still blurred images and shut-off the electronical system after a few seconds with the message “please switch it off then on again” Could not reset time and date either.
I managed to make a single shot again but immediately after : switch off, switch on, again and again. Not very convenient, quality of images not good either. Remaining dirty substances in the lens system, troubles especially with low light.
But last Wednesday, a sunny day again I decided to make the same trip again, same day, same hour 2 PM starting point. Cleaned my camera outside at noon but still the switch-off problem remained.
Took my camera in the kayak again, risking new problems, but what-ever I had to have it repaired and cleaned anyway. I made my first shot putting my paddle aside and miracle……….

“It did not switch off anymore”. All functionality back again, exactly 7 days later. Same place, same time.
Without any doubt : A wonderful place, the ultimate moment.
The art in photography does not explain its miracles, even the hazard, after it happened, is no hazard anymore.

And I made so many nice new shots during next hours at all these marvelous places and at such precious moments. Many low light captures still a bit blurred, but all the strong light captured were of reasonable quality.
Let my camera having cleaned internally very soon at a nearby service point and I can think about it again as a special personal “experience” as it already happened so many times to me. Coincidence, Luck or Angels or whatever, I’m surprised every time, sometimes astonished but ever thankful.
Now my dream of buying a new Nikon or Canon is still alive, also that dream I still foster. Never realize all dreams immediately as these are so full of happiness and inspiration.

Grtz,

Alain

Olympus, not a bad choise dear Bilja.
But if you tell me once you have chosen for Vladimir or even Petkov then check my disappointment please,

Glad that you like this photo Hussam. Just some more details: Plenty of fresh water in lakes and canals. Ever green landscapes even at 30 degrees Celcius.
thanks a lot,
Paul

Michele, Mabelle.
Life is full of what ? Miracles ? It's nearly all hard work and strictly on program though ? :)
Thank you my dear for your kind comment and appreciation and being a short miracle as a brief exception,
hugs and kisses from Paul

Thanks a lot for your support and appreciation Tommaso. I'm not at al a masochist but I do not realize material dreams so easily, even if I can. When I was a child I collected about 10 small foreign coins with a very rich world behind full of stories about its history and the way I got them. Then a friendly uncle gave me 30 or 40 coins because he thought I was such an enthusiastic collector and unfortunately I quickly lost my interest in a treasure I hadn't discovered myself.
cheers, Paul

Thanks for your appreciation of this risky low POV dear Arif.
Further the landscape was peaceful and relaxing.
But also hard work is not a bad thing :
I let my camera work all the time :-) and it looks like it's getting healthier even before cleaning.

have a nice evening,
Paul

Thanks for your appreciation Jose. Glad that you like it. The Dutch water-and landscapes were made world famous by so many classic painters.

Thanks for your visit and appreciation Keith. My camera has sufficiently dried now. All electronic functionality is OK. Only internal cleaning of the 12x zoom is still needed at a repair service point. Low light shows unwanted soft focus by dirt on the internal lenses.
cheers, Paul

vriendelijke groet,
Paul

very nice shot... and somehow the cows looks like...big wild elephands, especialy against the kid into the boat and mostly because of the high that they are... surely a very original photo, really interesting frame!
best regards!

Oh no. Sorry to hear that. They say that if you put it in a bag of rice, it could do the trick as far as drying it all out goes. Wonderful shot though Paul. Cheers Keith:)

Pity, such a nice camera. The nikon D40 goes for 333 euro at Mediamarkt but a Lumix FZ-xxx is also great.
